As the nation’s only "Aerotropolis University," Vanung University enjoys a superior geographical location near Taoyuan Airport and industrial zones, offering the best internship environment. In response to government policies and to alleviate labor shortages, the university enrolls New Southbound foreign students with multicultural and language advantages. These students are familiar with Taiwanese corporate culture and are highly recognized by employers, regarded as the rising stars for Taiwanese enterprises setting up overseas factories. Vanung University has a Mandarin Center dedicated to improving foreign students' Chinese proficiency, aiming for A2 certification within one year and B1 certification before graduation to enhance their learning, adaptation, and employment competitiveness. This supports their development in Taiwan, alleviates industry labor shortages, and ultimately realizes a win-win situation where foreign students settle and contribute their talents.
The university’s Department of Aeronautical and Opto-Mechatronic Engineering New Southbound International Industry-Academia Program has performed outstandingly. To strengthen industry-academia cooperation and multinational technical exchange, students and teachers visited the Pacific Electric Wire & Cable Yangmei plant on May 16th, aimed at enhancing Vietnamese students’ understanding of Taiwan’s wire and cable industry and high-end manufacturing, and boosting their employment competitiveness.
The visit involved 35 Vietnamese students led by the Aeronautical department, learning about the wire and cable industry process through company introductions, production line tours, and career sharing. Pacific Electric Wire & Cable specializes in power cables and communication wires, being a domestic industry leader. The Yangmei plant features highly automated production and quality assurance systems, focusing on high-quality cable R&D and manufacturing, with products marketed worldwide. To meet industry upgrades, the company will continue introducing intelligent manufacturing technology and actively cooperates with Vanung University to cultivate international talents.
Vietnamese student Li Qingping appreciates the careful teaching and care from Vanung University’s Aeronautical department, helping him adapt smoothly and actively participate in learning. He thanks the school for providing quality learning resources and an international vision, which have become valuable memories in his life. Li especially appreciates the arranged visit to Pacific Electric Wire & Cable, deepening his understanding of global communication networks. He is impressed by the company’s long history, modern equipment, comfortable and spacious work environment, and excellent benefits, and is looking forward to future internships there.
Besides the production line visit, Pacific Electric Wire & Cable executives said that with the recent expansion of international markets and increased demand for new product development, the company actively seeks multilingual and cross-cultural technical talents and eagerly welcomes New Southbound students to join their production team.
Department Chair Xu Ligen of the Aeronautical department said that company visits not only allow students to directly experience Taiwan’s industrial sites but also promote talent exchange between Taiwan and New Southbound countries. The Aeronautical department will continue collaborating with quality enterprises to create more multinational industry-academia connection learning platforms.
