In response to globalization trends and Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy goals of nurturing and retaining talent, Vanung University actively builds an international campus environment, dedicated to promoting diverse development and cross-cultural exchange for overseas and foreign students. The university has become a key hub in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli region for connecting Southeast Asian higher education and industrial chains. Each year, the university attracts a large number of international students from Southeast Asia, South Asia, and other regions, and helps them integrate into Taiwan and strengthen their workplace competitiveness through systematic teaching and life support mechanisms.
On the occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival, the university invited the executive chef, sous-chef, and Chef Song from the five-star Hotel Kuva Chateau in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, to personally guide overseas and foreign students from around the world in the fun of making zongzi (traditional rice dumplings), allowing them to experience the charm of Taiwanese traditional festival culture.
“We hope that through such cultural experience activities, overseas and foreign students can not only learn professional knowledge but also deeply understand Taiwan’s traditional culture, promote cross-cultural exchanges, and cultivate a global perspective,” said the school. The event not only allowed students to enjoy making zongzi but also promoted interaction and communication between teachers and students, demonstrating Vanung University’s care and emphasis on international students. The university will continue to hold various cultural experience activities to enrich students’ learning lives and build a diverse and friendly campus environment.
President Zhuang Chang emphasized that Vanung University aligns with the government’s New Southbound Talent Nurturing and Retention Plan, cultivating batches of elite students from Southeast Asian countries. More than half of the graduates annually choose to stay in Taiwan; some continue to pursue master’s degrees, while others work in Taiwan and become business trainees dispatched overseas by Taiwanese companies. He encourages overseas and foreign students to spread the Taiwanese spirit of perseverance and work ethic to Southeast Asian countries.
The school stated that Vanung University attaches great importance to the learning and life of overseas and foreign students. It holds activities during every festival to promote understanding and respect among different cultures through international exchange, nurturing a global vision and inclusive attitude among students. Through interactions with local teachers and students, overseas and foreign students can learn different ways of thinking and living habits, improve language ability and communication skills, laying a solid foundation for their future studies and career development, and enhancing international competitiveness.
