Last year, Hsieh Hsiang-Yu, a fourth-year student in the Department of Fashion Styling and Design at Vanung University in Taoyuan City, won the Ladies Prestige Gala Elite Evening Hairstyle Gold Medal. Yesterday, he was further honored with the 20th Technical and Vocational Excellence Award, part of the "Glory of Technical and Vocational Education" program. Hsieh expressed his surprise and gratitude, stating that he will continue striving for excellence. The OMC World Championship, hosted in Paris, is one of the most significant international awards in the beauty and hairdressing industry. Hsieh’s gold medal won last year also marked a historic milestone, as he became the first Taiwanese competitor to receive this prestigious award. The competition featured 39 participants from 11 countries, making it an exceptionally challenging and highly competitive event. Hsieh demonstrated outstanding technical skills, creativity, and professionalism, presenting a uniquely refined hairstyle design. His award-winning work, "Floral Paris," was inspired by the elegance of Paris as the "City of Flowers." The hairstyle incorporated wavy and S-shaped curls combined with a gradient of red, orange, and yellow tones, creating a sophisticated and dynamic evening look. This masterpiece showcased his keen attention to detail and unique artistic vision, capturing the romance and luxury of Parisian floral aesthetics. Hsieh described this award as the most precious honor of his student career. He sincerely thanked the Ministry of Education for recognizing his talent, expressed gratitude to his family for their support, and acknowledged Vanung University for providing an excellent learning environment and a strong team of faculty members that allowed him to continuously challenge himself and improve his skills. He also extended heartfelt thanks to his mentor, Professor Lin Ming-Hui, for her dedicated guidance over the past four years. Moving forward, Hsieh vowed to work even harder, upholding even higher standards to live up to this esteemed recognition. Gold Medal Coach Lin Ming-Hui has also received numerous accolades throughout her career. In recognition of her contributions to the fashion styling industry, she was honored as Vanung University’s 2024 Outstanding Alumni. This award celebrates her dedication to the field and is a testament to the university’s high regard for her outstanding achievements. Vanung University President Chuang Chang stated that great teachers nurture outstanding students. The university has cultivated 11 faculty members and students who have received the Ministry of Education’s highest honor—the "Glory of Technical and Vocational Education." He expressed immense pride in Hsieh Hsiang-Yu and Lin Ming-Hui’s achievements, emphasizing that they are exemplary representatives of Taiwan’s vocational education system. He is confident that Vanung University’s students will continue to shine on the international stage with more outstanding works and innovative designs.
