Welcome Freshmen! Vanung University held two-day First-Mile Freshmen orientation on September 10th – 11th. The orientation was packed with a variety of events ranging from convocation to academic advising, lectures to homeroom sessions. The opening of the ceremony was the dancing performance conducted by VNU mascot-Wonder Lion. The orientation activities were developed for students to become more familiar with the university environment, to build their career plan and their team coherence, and as well as to elicit students’ ideas and pursue their goals. Vanung University awarded scholarships up to NT$68 million today to encourage students to study, bring what they have learnt into full play and gain essential skills during their university life. Yu-Xun Chen, one of the freshmen of the Department of Marketing and Logistics scores 614 on his Joint College Entrance Examination. He got enough score to enroll in a National University of technology; instead, he chose Vanung university for a scholarship of NT$400,000 provided by VNU, and for the complete scheme of exchange students. Chen hope that he can get recommended to advance his study in Peking University in China. Chia-Yu Wong, freshman of the Department of Airline and Transport Service Management, scores 581 on her JCEE, has dreamt to become a flight attendant. After the attendance of the Aviation Camp this winter in VNU, She determines to her dream, so that she set her goal to be one of the Department of Airline and Transport Service Management Dr. Thomas Chuang, the president of Vanung University, claims that the university is committed to the vision of “upright in character, diligent in the pursuit of knowledge and differentiated education”, expecting to be the excellent university in Taoyuan Aerotropolis. VNU offers high amount of scholarship to 42 top students who score 500 and above and wish to come and study at the University, and each received a scholarship of NT$400,000. Besides, a scholarship of NT$20,000 -NT$200,000 was also awarded to each incoming freshmen who is qualified to the scholarship scheme, estimated NT$68 million in total. Dr. Chuang also said that the name of VNU mascot, Wonder Lion, is homophonous with “Wonda”, referring to “excellence” and “wonderful”. The performance of the dancing “Wonder Lion” in the opening of the orientation ceremony was to let the students feel the passion and expecting them to enrich their professional knowledge, and to become liberate, optimistic practical individuals.
