Vanung University (VNU), Maejo University (MU) and Sunrise Golf & Country Club (SGCC) signed a contract stating mutual intent for international cooperation and interchange between the two universities and a local business. This cooperation agreement follows an earlier contract signing, which stated a similar strategic alliance between VNU, MU and Tourism Bureau of Taoyuan County.
This latest signing ceremony was held at 11:00 a.m. on November. 26 and was attended by Dr. Chuang, president of VNU, Ms. Huang Mei-lun, general manager of SGCC, Mr. Wu Jen-Feng, the deputy general manager of SGCC, along with Dr. Pon, vice president of MU and his delegation.
The contract is primarily a statement of intent about future exchange between the three sides, including the following exchange programs for faculty, administration staff and students, joint research and seminars, and the sharing of academic data and messages.
Dr. Chuang indicated that Taiwan and Thailand have been actively developing tourism in a joint manner. Two years ago, both universities signed a so-called ‘Tourism 1 + 3 Cooperation Program (one year’s study in Thailand and three years in VNU) for academic exchange. There are currently over 40 Thai students studying tourism in VNU. In addition to their growing professionalism in the general area of tourism, students’ Mandarin language competency is improving significantly, which will improve Thailand’s future international competitiveness.
Dr. Chuang also stated that he created this three-sided memorandum of cooperation in hopes that other international cooperative ventures and learning experiences might be offered for faster internationalization. He noted that VNU has already had three successful experiences holding the LPGA Championship with SGCC, encouraged by MU’s general efforts in the area of sports and tourism development.
Dr. Pon said that he was able to sign this contract because he had just attended the Taiwan-Thailand Forum held in Kaohsiung. Dr. Pon expressed that it is a great opportunity to allow Thai students to come here for systematic learnin. In addition, Ms. Huang of SGCC stated that this pledge of intent is a good beginning in that it allows students to partake in a rare opportunity at SGCC. They will train the students hard without fail.
