These three parties signed the "Agreement of Strategic Alliance in the tourist industry between Taiwan and Thailand" at Vanung University on the afternoon of June 26th. The three representatives were Chang Zhuang, the president of Vanung University, Shaowei Li, director of Taoyuan Tourism Bureau, and Dr. Pon, vice president of Maejo University, Thailand. More than 30 teachers from these two universities attended this ceremony. In addition, attendees at the signing ceremony included chief of the tourism marketing management section for Taoyuan County, Mr. Xianghua Zhang, as well as chief of tourism development section of Taoyuan Tourism Bureau, Fuhua Li.
Maejo University, founded in 1934, is an Agricultural Normal School and Maejo College of Agricultural Science and Technology is the oldest agricultural institution in Thailand. The combined institution was reestablished as one comprehensive university in 1996, and now comprises these many areas of study: colleges of agricultural products, technology, agricultural industry and agricultural engineering; tourism development; fisheries and aquaculture; information and communication; business administration; economy; humanities; animal science and technology, architecture and environment design. All colleges are thriving and growing rapidly.
Chang Zhuang, the president of Vanung University, stated that both Taiwan and Thailand have invested great importance to developing and promoting their respective tourism industries. Vanung University is the only University of Science and Technology in the Taoyuan Aerotropolis region. It also has a dedicated College of Tourism and Hospitality. These two universities signed an agreement of academic exchange--cooperation in the field of tourism--two years ago. At present, there are 40 students taking a three-year professional course in tourism at Vanung University. In hope of expanding our cooperation with various stakeholders, we aim to work even more closely with the Taoyuan Tourism Bureau in the future.
Dr. Pon, vice president of Maejo University, said he welcomes the teachers and students of Vanung University as well as employees from the Taoyuan Tourism Bureau to visit Thailand for cultural exchange in the area of tourism. Shaowei Li, director of Taoyuan Tourism Bureau, said he is much honored to be the representative of Taoyuan’s Tourism Bureau attending the signing ceremony. Taoyuan County is a thriving and growing city with a population of more than two million people. One way to experience the real tourism culture of Taiwan is to travel around Taoyuan County.
